2011 is here and I am still dragging some of my baggage with me. Mostly around my hips and thighs…okay some is a little abdominal. It is a new year, a new time to reflect and continue to work on obtaining goals not yet met.
I must say that I am a little inspired by my boys. Apparently their coach spoke with their gym class about how children do not exercise and go out to play like they should. This came up again over winter break, and the conversation sparked more awareness with my kids. Starting this week they asked me to wake them up at 6:00 a.m. to exercise before school. That is very different from the “Five more minutes mom”, I usually get when I try to get them up at 6:30.
They are cute sliding their feet under the couch to steady their positions as they do their sit ups. I smile as they do their push-ups without their knees touching the floor (apparently those are girl push-ups). I’m sure my downstairs neighbor wishes go out and play meant “outside” and play. I had to ask them more than once to calm down as they ran through the apartment playing hide and seek.
Although I’m not where I want to be, I have reached some milestones. I can walk the treadmill for 90 minutes at a time. I also bake most of my food and order a kids meal during the times when we must eat out. Vince Lombardi said, “The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.” May my will and my Father’s be one, and I reach my desired weight and maintain it in a healthy way.
Best wishes for meeting your goals in 2011!
